Religion
The people of South Africa are mostly Christians. The whies belong to the Anglican, Lutheran, Presbterian, Roman Catholic, Methodist, and other congregation. Blacks usually belong to the African Independent Churches. The largest African church is Zion Christian Church, which they combine Christian and Afican beliefs into what they teach. Some people of South Africa mix the Christian beliefs and their indigioudous beliefs together. Amongst the populaion, 1 percent don't claim to pracice any religion.
Holidays
Chrismas is celbrate by all Christians, usually with a Chrismas Meal and going to a chuch service. Black South Africans celebrae by killing a sheep that marks the special occasion. New Years is full of parties in which most people gather on beaches. Political Holiays include Human Rights Day, Freedom Day, and Youth Day. Human Rights Day marks the day when 69 people were killed in a human rights movement. Freedom Day marks the first time South Africans held democraic elections. Youth Day is a day honoring all the people including youths in school protest. These protest killed over 700 people. All of these Political Holidays are remembered by patriotic events, which are usually held in staiums and you listen to leaders speak.
Diet
People of South Africa enjoy tons of different variety of foods. Their diet includes roast beef or roast lamb, potatoes, curries, boerewors and pickled fish, grilled meats, stewed tomatoes, cabbage, pumpkin, and spinach. Wild game meats is also a popular choice in food. The rural majority eat mostly corn, rice, beans, and potatoes. The Black South Africans eat a form of cornmeal porridge, which is sometimes cooked with meat and vegetables. Fresh fruit and vegetables are often grow by farmers on the side of the street in fruit and vegetable stands.
Education
South Africa is forever changed from the actions of the apartheid. It brought segregation to schools, which has changed the way school systems are run today. It will take a long time before children in school uniforms are treaty fairly and equally. School ages range from age 7 to age 15. School life span is 13 years, with grades from 0 to 12. School is a lot more common amongst white and Indian races than mixed or black races. South African schools are very limited on the supplies they have, so the education is not always great.
Languages
The are four main languages in South Africa, including Nguni, Sotho, Tsonga or Shangana, and Venda. The Sotho language takes most of the population's language in the central region of South Africa. A bunch of new mixed languages are starting to cumulate. Some whites have started to learn the African language to become more knowledgeable in the African culture.
Clothing
South Africa is known for the madiba shirt. which is a silk shirt often covered in vibrant colors. Nelson Mandela as seen wearing these types of shirts often. Most of all the pieces of clothing includes very bright colors. The women wear long dresses.
Music
Choirs are very common, and traditional folk songs are integrated into the choral music. Mbaqanga dance music originated during the apartheid. Favorite music of the youth South Africans is Kwaito music. It mixes African melodies and lyrics with hip-hop and reggae. The incorporation of distinctive penny whistle is Kwela music.
Sports
The most important sprots in South Africa is soccer, rugby, and cricket. Rugby and cricket are most common amongst whites and soccer is most common amongst blacks. When people of South Africa win an international event, every one cheers and supports the sport that won. Many people also enjoy the sports of tennis and swimming. The people that can afford equipment or club memberships participate in lawn bowling, golf, squash, field hockey, and sailing. Other things that catch people's attention are car and horse racing.
